               New Junior High School Opens!

The new Altoona Area Junior High School opened in August for the 2008-2009 school year.  An estimated 1,800 students will attend grades 7-9.

The complex includes a four-story academic building between Seventh and Eighth avenues between 13th and 14th streets. A second building, housing athletic facilities and locker rooms, is located between 14th and 15th streets.

The new facility replaces Roosevelt, which opened in 1924, and Keith, which opened in 1930.

A tour of the new state-of-the-art Altoona Area Junior High School will be offered Saturday, October 4, at 10 a.m.  Participants are asked to report to the main entrance on Seventh Avenue near 13th Street.

The AAHS Alumni Museum located on the second floor of the Altoona Area Public Library will be open from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Joe Servello and Bill Moffitt, both 1950 Altoona High School graduates, will host a free reception at the Servello Gallery at 1302 Eleventh Avenue from 1-3 p.m. A variety of paintings will be on display and complimentary refreshments will be served.

A formal dedication ceremony for the new facility will take place on Sunday, October 26, at 2:00 p.m.  Tours will be offered then as well.
