Altoona Area Junior High School
Construction Project

After years of planning and preparation, the Altoona Area School District broke ground for the new Altoona Area Junior High School on Friday, April 28.

The new school will replace Roosevelt, which opened in 1924, and Keith, which opened in 1930. It is expected to be finished for the opening of the 2008-2009 school year. An estimated 1,800 students will attend grades 7-9.

Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. of Altoona is the general contractor for this $48 million project.

  • D.C. Goodman and Sons, Inc. of Huntingdon (HVAC)
  • S.P. McCarl and Company of Altoona (Plumbing)
  • Interstate Fire Protection Co. of Valencia (Fire Protection)
  • G.M. McCrossin, Inc. of Bellefonte (Electrical)
  • Commercial Appliance Contracts of Grove City (Food Service)
  • Maffei Strayer of Pittsburgh (Auditorium Seating)
L. Robert Kimball and Associates are the architects for the project.

A four-story academic building is being constructed between Seventh and Eighth avenues between 13th and 14th streets. A second building, housing athletic facilities and locker rooms will be located between 14th and 15th streets.
